COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Rob Cassidy claimed the Gamecocks’ only title for the 2004 USC Fall Invitational. The Greenville, South Carolina native defeated Darren Mansell of East Carolina in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 10-7) to win the A-2 Singles consolation bracket. After losing in the opening round of the A-2 main draw, Cassidy went on to win five consecutive matches, including Sunday’s performance, to claim Carolina’s first title of the fall season. Other Gamecocks in action on Sunday were Tom Eklund and Jamie Cuellar. Cuellar, the freshman from Brazil, pulled double duty on the tournament’s final day; playing his final singles match in the morning before teaming with Tom Eklund for the A-1 Doubles final in the afternoon. Cuellar and Eklund will be joined this weekend by teammate Pedro Rodrigues, as they travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the ITA Fall Regionals. The next team tournament for USC will be the Bulldog Scramble hosted by the University of Georgia, November 5-7 in Athens.
