Ottawa, Canada – In its last task prior to departing Ottawa for Montreal, USC defeated the University of Ottawa 82-44. USC will play Concordia University in Montreal Saturday afternoon before returning home to Columbia Sunday evening.

USC was led by Tarence Kinsey’s 16 points in 16 minutes. Kinsey also grabbed five rebounds and added two steals. Also in double figures for the Gamecocks were Carlos Powell (13), Josh Gonner (11), Renaldo Balkman (12) and Antoine Tisby (11). Rocky Trice and Antoine Tisby led the Gamecocks with seven rebounds each.

USC shot 47.7% from the field to UO’s 24.6%. USC was 58.6% from the charity stripe to UO’s 60.9%. Carolina again won the battle of the boards, collecting 46 to the Gee Gee’s 37. UO blocked no shots to USC’s seven, including four by Brandon Wallace. USC collected 12 steals to UO’s three.

USC will start three different line-ups in Canada. In the game against Ottawa, Odom started: Stephen McDowell (G), Gonner (G), Balkman (F), Powell (F) and Wallace (C.)

USC took a 17 point lead into the lockerroom at half time, 37-20, when Tarence Kinsey hit a shot at the buzzer. USC started the game on a 9-0 run before Ottawa called time-out to re-group. The Gamecocks again played tough defense tonight as Ottawa went almost 11 minutes without a field goal (12:00 * 1:11), missing 11 straight shots. Kinsey scored a game-high nine points in the first half, with Powell, Gonner, Wallace, Balkman and Paulius Joneliunas all adding four points each. USC won the battle of the board, 23-18, with Balkman and Rocky Trice pulling down a game-high five each in the first half. USC shot 40.6% from the field to UO’s 20.7%. UO was 0-8 from beyond the arc. USC added five blocks to UO’s none and stole three balls to the Gee Gee’s one.

In the second half, USC continued to pour it on. USC went on a 15-0 run in a five minute span (15:00 * 10:05) before the Gee Gee’s went on an 8-0 run themselves. In the second half, USC shot 54.5% to UO’s 28.6%. In addition to the high-flying antics on offense, Kelley recorded what might have been his first collegiate dunk.

Senior center John Chappell did not play due to swelling on his left knee, but he is expected to play tomorrow against Concordia.
