USC Women’s Soccer Releases 2004 Schedule

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team has announced its 2004 schedule that includes 11 home games at Stone Stadium beginning with the season opener on August 27 vs. Georgia State. The schedule features eight opponents that reached the 2003 NCAA Tournament: vs. Maryland (9/10), at Virginia (9/12), Clemson (9/15), at Auburn (9/24), Georgia (10/1), Tennessee (10/3), Ole Miss (10/15), Florida (10/29).

“The schedule is very competitive,” said USC head coach Shelley Smith. “A good strength of schedule is important and we have continued to increase the level of competition. Our players except to be challenged and to play top teams across the nation.”

The SEC schedule includes two additional contests this year, the first time in SEC history that all 12 teams will compete without exclusion of any one team from the schedule. In previous seasons, four of six teams from the SEC East and SEC West would meet with two schools excluded from the schedule.

The 11 matches at home for the 2004 season ties the record for most home matches in a year for the South Carolina women’s soccer team. Carolina was 6-2-1 in 2003 at Stone Stadium, the best record at home for the Gamecocks in the last four years. USC finished the year with a 10-8-3 record and made its second consecutive trip to the SEC Tournament.

Wednesday September 15: Clemson 7 p.m.

Sunday September 19: Charlotte 1 p.m.

Friday September 24: at Auburn 8 p.m.
