COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s Jenny Lake earned Academic All-American honors as named by the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association. The Mathematics/Pre-Med major was one of only four national honorees with a 4.0 GPA.
Lake was the top finisher for USC in each of the team’s fall meets, including three overall victories. A junior from Geneseo, Ill., Lake placed seventh at the SEC Championships, the best finish ever by a USC runner, and earned NCAA All-Regional honors to cap the season.
Also a team captain for the Gamecocks Track and Field Team, Lake earned a victory in the 5,000m during the 2004 indoor season and was part of a quartet that established a new school record in the Distance Medley Relay in 2003.
USC’s cross country team was also recognized by the coaches’ association for earning a team GPA of 3.25 or better, by achieving a 3.38 GPA, the second highest mark by an SEC school.
