COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 22 South Carolina men’s tennis team continued to roll Saturday morning as they defeated the Francis Marion Patriots (4-2) in their fourth sweep of the season, 7-0. South Carolina is now 9-0 on the 2004 season. Carolina’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams extended their perfect marks on the season.
Marcus Westman and Tom Eklund won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2 over Danny Cordrey and Chatwinder Singh. Geraldo Knorr and Pedro Rodrigues teamed up to notch an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles over Roshun Razik and Kevin Taylor.
In singles action, Tom Eklund was one of many Gamecocks to continue his undefeated streak as he beat Taylor at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (6), 6-2. Westman notched the win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1 while Pedro Rodrigues easily defeated Alex Cury, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Rob Cassidy reprised his role as the “Comeback Kid,” falling behind at No. 6 singles 5-0 in the first set, but rallied to tie the set at five, then again at six, and finally won 7-6, 7-4 in the tiebreaker. Cassidy then won the second set by a score of 6-2 to notch the win.
The No. 22 Gamecocks host Gardner-Webb Saturday at 3 p.m.
