Columbia, S.C. – The Gamecock Equestrian team lost to the defending varsity champion Georgia Bulldogs at Irish Oaks Equestrian Centre on Friday. This was the Bulldogs’ second victory over the Gamecocks this year in a varsity competition. The final score was 1,114.50to 1,108.50, in favor of the Bulldogs.

In Hunt Seat Equitation, the final score was 249 to 215 with the Gamecocks falling to the Bulldogs. Sarah Lowe led the Carolina squad with a score of 60 points. Tara Brothers also contributed with 58 points.

In Equitation Over Fences, Freshman Dana Hancock and Sophomore Chelsea Koornick tied for the Gamecock high score with 66 points. Hancock was awarded the Over Fences High Point Award. The final score was 257 to 247, in favor of the Gamecocks.

In Western Horsemanship, the Gamecocks accumulated 319 points and the Bulldogs’ amassed a total of 315 points.. Laura Pipkin received a high score of 83 points. Freshman Julia Johnson also contributed with a score of 82 points.

In Western Reining, Sophomore Laura Pipkin received a high score of 92.5 points. The Virginia native was awarded the Reining High Point Award. The final score was 317.50 to 303.5 in favor of USC.

The Carolina Equitation riders will travel to Augusta, Georgia for a competition against Augusta State on Saturday February 14-15.

The Gamecocks will host their third varsity competition of this month against the Auburn Tigers. The competition will take place at the Irish Oaks Equestrian Centre. The competition will begin at 10 A.M.on Saturday February 21.
