South Carolina’s No. 19 ranked men’s tennis squad improved to 10-3 on the year with a 5-2 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday at the Sam Daniel Tennis Center. With the victory the Gamecocks upped their non-conference record to 7-0 on the year.
USC claimed an early lead in the contest by taking two of three doubles matches and a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The teams of Seth Rose/Carl Wermee and Ben Atkinson/David Nelson locked up wins to claim the point for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks continued their dominance in singles play. Angelo Niculescu, Marcus Westman, Carl Wermee, and Rodrigo Pacheco all claimed USC victories. Westman, a sophomore from Sweden, improved to 13-0 in dual match play with his victory over Joao Menano at the No. 3 position.
South Carolina will be back in action on Sunday, March 24 when they host in-state rivals College of Charleston and The Citadel beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Sam Daniel Tennis Center.
