COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Rifles backfired on USC-Spartanburg as the No. 23 Gamecocks rolled with a 4-0 win Sunday. No. 23 South Carolina (3-0), who is in the middle of a 12-match home stand, continues action Sunday afternoon as they face the Radford Highlanders.

The Gamecocks got off to an early start, quickly winning the doubles point to take the 1-0 match lead. Geraldo Knorr and Pedro Rodrigues teamed up to slam David Gustafsson and Aly Mandour of USCS, 8-1. Meanwhile the pair of Ben Atkinson and Carl Wermee defeated the Rifle’s Stefan Dumitrescu and Jose Luis Reyes.

In singles action, Tom Eklund kept his dual match singles streak alive at three with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Diego Sist at No. 1 singles. Teammate Marcus Westman notched the win at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ben Ureta. That put Carolina up 3-0 in the match.

Freshman Pedro Rodrigues sealed the Gamecock victory over the Rifles with a 6-4, 6-2 No. 4 singles win over Aly Mandour. The win notched Rodrigues’ first career singles win as a Gamecock.

The win over the Rifles notched Carolina Head Coach Kent DeMars’ 298th career victory as the Carolina head coach. The Gamecocks face Radford Sunday afternoon and will take on regional rivals Charlotte and Davidson on Feb. 15 at the USC Indoor Tennis Facility.
