4/5/15 – After trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half, an effort led by senior Aleighsa Welch willed No. 3/4 South Carolina back into the game. But No. 2/2 Notre Dame grabbed the lead with just 16 seconds to go, and the Gamecocks’ final shot was off the mark in a 66-65 decision in the national semifinals at Amalie Arena.
4/5/15 – South Carolina junior guard Tiffany Mitchell captured her first national player of the year honor today when The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia named her the winner of The Dawn Staley Award for 2015. Established in 2013, the award recognizes the nation’s best guard in Women’s Division I college basketball as defined by the skills that Staley possessed throughout her career – ball handling, scoring, ability to distribute the basketball and will to win.
4/4/15 – The South Carolina Gamecocks met with the media the day before their match-up with Notre Dame in the Final Four in Tampa. Joining coach Staley were Elem Ibiam, Alaina Coates and Aleighsa Welch.
4/4/15 – The Gamecocks enjoyed “Super Saturday” with fans at Amalie Arena, including an autograph session, news conference, and open practice.
4/4/15 – South Carolina junior guard Tiffany Mitchell collected yet another award as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced her as a part of its 10-member team at a ceremony during the NCAA Women’s Final Four Super Saturday festivities. Mitchell also earned the distinction last season when she became the program’s first All-American since Jocelyn Penn in 2003. Senior forward Aleighsa Welch and freshman guard/forward A’ja Wilson were named honorable mention All-Americans by the organization as well.
