Vogt, Allen, Lane Receive SEC Honors
Auburn, Ala. – Senior Sloane Vogt was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year while junior Jordan Allen, fences, and sophomore Emma Lane, reining, were selected to the SEC All-Championship Team the conference announced at the conclusion of the SEC Championships. Vogt is the fourth rider in program history to receive the honor while Allen and Lane earned the honor for the first time since 2016.
SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Sloane Vogt
Vogt is a dual discipline rider who competes in horsemanship and reining and has seen action in all 13 of South Carolina’s meets this season. In the SEC Championships, she competed in reining in both meets.
The Berlin, Pa. native has etched her name in the record book time and time again for the Gamecocks. She is tied sixth for number of M.O.P. awards in a single season with three in reining in 2020-21. That year, she also led the reining team with six wins on the season.
With her success last season, Vogt earned First-Team NCEA All-America Honors in reining. She is just the fourth Gamecock in program history to earn the honor.
SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is not Vogt’s first conference honor as she was a 2021-21 All-SEC Team member and made the record-setting 2019 SEC All-Freshman Team. She even earned two monthly honors from the conference with the 2020 SEC Rider of the Fall and the 2021 SEC Rider of the Month, both of which were in reining.
Vogt has also earned multiple NCEA nods. She was the 2020 Rider of the Month in reining and the February 2022 Standout Student Athlete of the Month. She is a public health major with a 3.912 overall GPA. Her post-grad goal is to attend nursing school in the hopes of serving as a mid-wife in rural areas that may not have those services.
SEC All-Championship Team: Jordan Allen and Emma Lane
Allen was awarded the honor after an impressive performance in the conference championships in fences. In the semifinal against Texas A&M, Allen earned one of two points for the Gamecocks in the event with a 257 which was the second-highest score of the day. Against Georgia in the consolation, she notched a 275 to tie the best score in SEC Championship history. She was awarded M.O.P. honors for her ride both days and now has four of those honors to her name this season.
Lane also earned a point in each of the meets at the conference championships. She scored a 216.5 against the Aggies which was not only the highest score of the day but set a program record for a score in reining in a meet with three judges. The sophomore earned a 215 against the Bulldogs which helped the Gamecocks take reining 3-1 in the consolation and tied the now second-highest score in the record book in meets with three judges. Lane has been a top performer for South Carolina this season and ends the conference championships 7-3-3.
