Recap?|? Final Stats
Alabama Head Coach Judy Green:
“This is our first win ever at USC. I have a great deal of respect for Kim (Hudson Christopher) and her program. We are very fortunate to get a win here. I really like how my team is playing volleyball now. This is not a team of superstars. Once we got the jitters out we played good. This team does a good job of showing maturity. I can’t say enough about (Erin) Price. She gets better match-to-match, her confidence keeps growing. She is a senior who is hungry and that is when great things happen.”
(On playing in front of host team, South Carolina’s, home crowd):
“We handled it like rock stars. We have had many opportunities during the season to play in front of great crowds. I think my players may feed off of it. We want it to be a championship caliber crowd.”
(On next opponent):
“We didn’t get a chance to play Arkansas twice this season. We had an incredible match in October. After we lost I saw a lot of tears in the locker room. We said at that moment if we got an opportunity again we’d try to make the most of it. Either way we’ll take whoever the next opponent is, today we are 1-0 tomorrow we will be 0-0.
Erin Price, Alabama, Sr., Setter:
“We feed of the crowd; we are used to playing in front of great crowds. We are playing as a team right now and it is encouraging everyone is doing their part.”
South Carolina Head Coach Kim Hudson Christopher:
“You could see the players get discouraged. A couple of bad plays, and it is easy for a team to make a run on us. We average 14 unforced errors a game. I think a lot of it has to do with youth. It will be a very difficult spring. We have to get mentally tough, and have to get the players to be able to perform under stress.”
Sarah Morgan, South Carolina, Soph., Outside Hitter:
“We have difficulty managing our mistakes, and we have mental breakdowns. Tonight we did not bring our game, we talked the talk, but we did not walk the walk.”
(On overcoming mental breakdowns):
“It is a combo of comfort on the court and fundamentals.”
