South Carolina Travels for SEC Championships

Auburn, Ala. – South Carolina Equestrian is set to compete in the SEC Championships hosted at Auburn on Friday and Saturday. The Gamecocks will face top-seeded No. 3 Texas A&M on Friday at 11 a.m. ET in the first semifinal round. If they win, the Gamecocks will advance to the championship meet.
 
“We’ve worked very hard this entire year and although things didn’t always go our way, we have improved throughout,” said head coach Boo Major. “The current trust and determination of this team is unparalleled. We are excited to start the SEC Equestrian Championship tomorrow.”
 
Fan Information

  • All rounds of the SEC Championship will air on SEC+. South Carolina’s meet against Texas A&M on Friday will be available here.
  • If the Gamecocks advance to the championship, the meet will air here on Saturday. If they compete in the consolation, the meet will air here.

Gamecock Notables

  • South Carolina finished the regular season 2-9 with upsets over then-No. 4 Georgia and then-No. 10 Delaware State.
  • The Gamecocks are on a five-meet winning streak on the flat, including two 5-0 sweeps against both Texas A&M and Delaware State.
  • Sophomore Maya Clarkson and senior Alice Kass were named back-to-back SEC Riders of the Month on the flat for February and March, respectively. Clarkson went 4-0-0 in February and Kass went 2-0-0 in March.
  • South Carolina has totaled 18 MOP awards in all four events combined this season. Seniors Caroline Bald and Trinity Hammerschmidt each have three on the flat, Jordan Allen leads with two in fences, and Michaela Schrim has two in horsemanship. Emma LaneEmilia Reutimann and Chloe VanStone each have one in reining.

 
Scouting Texas A&M

  • No. 3 Texas A&M finished the regular season 11-3 including a 5-1 record in SEC competition.
  • The Aggies most recently fell to then-No. 2 Oklahoma State in a 9-8 outcome.
  • Texas A&M won both matchups against South Carolina in the regular season in narrow 10-8 and 10-9 decisions.

 
The SEC Notables

  • This will be the ninth SEC Championships for the conference.
  • The Gamecocks last won the conference title in 2014 with wins over Texas A&M and Auburn.
  • South Carolina is 1-1 against Texas A&M in the first round of the SEC Championship. It is 2-4 in all conference tournament appearances against the Aggies.
  • The Gamecocks have defeated every other SEC team at least once in championship history.
  • South Carolina looks to advance to the conference title meet for the third time.
