Gamecocks Second Midway Through Round Two at General Hackler

South Carolina opened with a 6-under 282 in first round after morning weather delay

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — South Carolina sits in second place at 6-under midway through the second round of the General Hackler Championship, trailing No. 5 Auburn by five shots. Senior All-American Ryan Hall is T-3rd at 5-under for the tournament, two shots back of the Tigers’ J.M. Butler.

Hall was the 18-hole leader after opening with a 67 (-5). He was 5-under in his first five holes with three-straight birdies followed by a hole-in-one at the par-3 fifth hole. The Knoxville, Tenn., native has finished in the top-20 in 22 of his 30 career starts heading into the event. He won Palmetto Intercollegiate by five shots earlier in the week.

Sophomore Rafe Reynolds, senior transfer Evans Lewis and junior Jack Wall all sit inside the top-20 alongside Hall as well. Reynolds and Lewis each shot 71 (-1) the first 18 holes. Wall was the final counting score with a 73 (+1). He made five birdies but was hurt by a pair of double bogeys on his scorecard.

Freshman Nathan Franks is T-50th at 4-over. He shot 74 (+2) in the opening round. Franks was 2-under with five to play and made bogeys on four of his five final holes. Fellow freshman Gene Zeigler is playing as an indivudal this week and he shot 79 (+7) in the opening round. He’s even through nine holes in round two.

Teams were supposed to play 36 holes today but start times were delayed more than 2 hours because of below freezing temperatures. Round two play resumes in the morning with the final round to follow immediately after.
