South Carolina Jumping Squad Tops Lynchburg 6-4

Blythewood, S.C. – South Carolina’s jumping seat squad closed out its regular season schedule with 6-4 win over Lynchburg. In the victory, senior Alice Kass and junior Jordan Allen took M.O.P. honors.

“We had a few mental errors today. I know our student athletes were tired after multiple weeks of competing as well as a double header this weekend,” said head coach Boo Major. “They have been riding lights out so I know with a little rest over spring break they will be excited to get back to campus and prepare for the SEC Championship.”

On the flat, Lynchburg secured the first two points, but South Carolina fought back. Trinity Hammerschmidt scored an 80.5 on Murphy to put the Gamecocks on the board and close in on the Hornets’ lead. Freshman Sophie Mitchell notched the next point with an 88 on Tanner to earn her personal best score on the flat this season. Her 88 topped her previous best score by 9.5 points. Finally, Kass earned the best score of the day with an 89.5 on Dento, leading to her first M.O.P. this year. Her 89.5 is also the best score on the flat for South Carolina this season.

Going into fences, South Carolina led Lynchburg 3-2.

The competition remained close in fences. The Hornets took the first point, but Mitchell and Henri scored an 80 to give the Gamecocks the 4-3 lead. Lynchburg once again tied things up 4-4 but South Carolina hit its stride. Allen tied her season best score of 86 on Mack to give the Gamecocks their next point and junior Madeline Schaefer sealed the deal with a 68 on Barnaby.

South Carolina will compete later this month in the SEC Championship at Auburn on March 25. The seeding for the competition has yet to be decided.
