Vogt Named February NCEA Standout Student Athlete of the Month

Columbia S.C. – Senior Sloane Vogt received Standout Student Athlete of the Month recognition from the NCEA on Wednesday.

“Sloane has been a true leader of our team this year as a captain and as a competitor in both reining and horsemanship,” said head coach Boo Major. “She is also a leader in the classroom with a fantastic GPA. Her work ethic and steady demeanor is incomparable. We are very fortunate to have Sloane as a part of our team for the last four years.”

Vogt is a public health major who excels in the classroom. She had a 4.0 GPA in fall 2021 and is very dedicated to her studies. After she graduates in May, she plans to attend nursing school. Her goal is to become a midwife in rural areas that may not have those services.

Additionally, she is very involved in the Columbia community and often volunteers at Harvest Hope Food Bank. She participated in the MLK Day of Service and was a big contributor to the team’s involvement with Families Helping Families.

In competition this season, Vogt started in 11 meets in reining and nine meets in horsemanship. She notably tied her opponent in reining in the home meet upset over then-No. 4 Georgia. Additionally, Vogt earned one M.O.P. earlier this season in the home meet against Texas A&M in horsemanship.

South Carolina will be back in action for the SEC Championship on March 25 at Auburn. Seeding for the competition has yet to be announced.
