Hinz Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Senior goalkeeper Heather Hinz has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Hinz started out the 2022 season hot for the Gamecocks, racking up six saves (double her opponent) against defending national champions Florida State, helping her team to the first draw against a No. 1 team in program history. Hinz collected another save against ECU, finishing the weekend with two shutouts and a win under her belt. This marks the second conference honor of her career.
Hinz and the rest of South Carolina women’s soccer will hit the road for the first time this season, taking on UConn and Vermont Thursday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 28, respectively.
