Harris, Hinz, and Gareis Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the seventh consecutive season, the South Carolina women’s soccer program had three players selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region team, as announced on Monday night (Nov. 29). Defender Jyllissa Harris was named to the first team, while forward Ryan Gareis and goalkeeper Heather Hinz were named to the third team.
It’s the second All-Region honor for Harris, who was named to the second team last season. Earlier this year she was named to the All-SEC First Team for the second time in her career. She was also named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. She finished the season third on the team with four goals, three assists, and 11 points. She started every match on the backline for the Gamecocks, playing every minute in 19 of 22 matches.
A graduate student, Gareis finished the season second on the team with nine assists, which ranked 49th in the country. She was third on the team with four goals and her 17 points were second best on the squad. For her performance against Auburn, Gareis was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
Hinz, a junior, started all 22 matches in goal for the Gamecocks. She played 1,981 minutes between the posts, which ranked 17th in the country. Her 1.045 goals against average was third in the SEC and 103th nationally. Hinz recorded seven shutouts on the season and finished with a .744 save percentage. She was the only goalie in the NCAA Tournament to record three shutouts in the first three rounds.
The Gamecocks ended their season 14-7-1 record, reaching the Elite Eight for the fifth time in the last eight seasons.
