Carolina Cross Country Completes SEC Championships
Hope Dominique led the Gamecocks in their 14th-place team finish
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The South Carolina women’s cross country team finished 14th at the SEC Cross Country Championships on Friday at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
“Obviously, it wasn’t a great day,” said cross country coach Andrew Allden. “We were without our No. 1 Hannah Twine who we had to pull right before the race due to injury. Hope Dominique did a great job stepping into the lineup for the first time this year. Kira Jenkins had another solid race for us, and she has been great for us all season. Beyond that it was a struggle.”
Hope Dominique ran her first race of the season and led the Gamecocks with a 99th-place finish. She finished he 6K race in 22:50.4. Dominique was the first Gamecock across the line for the second consecutive year at the conference meet.
Kira Jenkins has been in the top three for the Gamecocks all season and was Carolina’s No. 2 on Friday. She took 108th with a time of 23:17.9. She also scored for Carolina at the 2020 SEC Cross Country Championships.
Katerina Hendrix (116th, 23:33.3), Lily Weeks (124th, 24:02.9) and Claudia Satzke (126th, 24:07.9) rounded out the scoring efforts for the Gamecocks.
Hannah Cella and Savannah Bowers were in Carolina’s top seven as well. They took 130th and 132nd, respectively.
Carolina’s cross country squad racked up 435 points for a 14th-place team finish.
