Senior Graycen Hess Named NCEA Standout Student Athlete of the Month

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Graycen Hess was named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Standout Student Athlete of the Month, the NCEA announced Monday.

“Graycen has been nothing short of a great addition to our team. Her tenacity and determination while reining, being a teammate and completing her degree is undeniable,” said head coach Boo Major. “She is currently working in a local hospital on a COVID patient floor and is giving back to the Carolina community. Her devotion to her COVID patients and teammates is unquestionable, often putting others before herself.”

Hess is from Monroe, N.C. and is completing a major in nursing. The senior rode in five competitions in the 2020-21 season and competed in the SEC Championships. In the meet against Auburn last season, she notably tied her opponent in reining with a score of 72.

South Carolina will host SEC-rival Texas A&M at One Wood Farm on Friday, October 22 at 10 a.m. This will be the first SEC meet of the season for the Gamecocks.
