Toby Named NCEA Horse of the Month

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina longtime jumping seat horse Toby was named the NCEA Horse of the Month for September, the NCEA announced Monday.

Toby, also known as The Admiral, is an Irish Sport Horse donated by Steve Botkin in 2009. He has travelled with the team to every SEC and NCEA Championship and primarily competes in the equitation on the flat.

“Toby has been a mainstay in our program for many, many years. He has been to every SEC and national championship where we have travelled horses,” said head coach Boo Major. Recently on the flat he has consistently been a high score horse and has won many M.O.P.’s. In our scrimmage he scored a meet high of 88 and his rider, Kit Cunningham, was named M.O.P. He has never taken a lame step since we’ve had him. As he nears his retirement, it is an incredible honor for him to be recognized as outstanding horse of the month.”

Toby is well-loved and is consistently everyone’s favorite. Toby has competed in 48 meets with South Carolina and won points in 27 of them. He has nine M.O.P. awards to his name, with his all-time highest score coming in at 91.
