Gamecocks Begin Play at Bulldog Invitational
Athens, GA – South Carolina men’s tennis played its first matches of the Bulldog Invitational Friday.
No. 56 James Story got back on track in his first match after competing in the ITA All-Americans. He defeated Bekhzod Rasamatov of UNC-W in straight sets, winning the first set 6-3 before collecting a late service break in the second set to close it 7-5.
Junior Beau Pelletier was putting up a hard fight before having to retire his match against James Roelofse of Furman. Pelletier took the first set 6-1 and was at a tight score of 5-6 before the match was retired.
Story paired up with Jake Beasley in doubles to challenge Ilarion Danilchenko and Dan Martin of Miami. In the closely contested match, the Gamecocks forced a tiebreak but couldn’t secure a win, eventually falling with a score of 8-7(5).
Day two of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and will continue through Sunday.
