Gamecocks Advance in Consolations
Tulsa, Okla. – A pair of South Carolina men’s tennis entries in the ITA All-American Championships advanced to the round of 16 in the singles consolation bracket. Junior Raphael Lambling and sophomore Toby Samuel will be back on the courts Friday.
After advancing through qualifying into the main draw, No. 49 Samuel improved to 3-1 at the tournament with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win over Holden Koons of James Madison. The Gamecock sophomore will take on Virginia’s Chris Rodesch on Friday.
No. 39 Lambling advanced by walkover when his scheduled opponent withdrew due to injury. He will take on Baylor’s Tadeas Paroulek in the round of 16.
No. 1 seed Daniel Rodrigues took an unfortunate early departure from the main draw the tournament due to injury. He was battling No. 86 Ben Shelton of Florida before having to retire the match.
No. 16 Connor Thomson was also eliminated from the main draw, falling to No. 46 Mason Beiler of Oklahoma. Thomson won the first set 6-1 before dropping the next two 4-6, 1-6.
Consolation rounds will continue in Tulsa tomorrow. Draws can be found on the ITA website.
