The University of South Carolina announced Tuesday that Andy Demetra will take over the microphone as the new Gamecock women’s basketball play-by-play radio announcer.

A native of Oak Brook, Illinois, Demetra comes to South Carolina after four years of broadcasting Syracuse University basketball, football and lacrosse games for WAER radio in Syracuse, New York. Demetra also worked with WSYR Newsradio as a reporter and calling basketball and football games for WHEN Sportsradio.

“Andy Demetra comes to South Carolina highly recommended with a solid background in sports and radio,” said Elizabeth McMillan, General Manager of Gamecock Sports Properties. “He’s a very talented individual with a strong work ethic.”

“We are very excited to have Andy join our women’s basketball program,” said USC head Susan Walvius. “He has great experience with basketball after covering the Syracuse basketball team during their national championship run last season.”

The Gamecocks open the season on the road Friday, November 21st at Clemson before returning for the home opener against Appalachian State on Monday, November 24th.
