No. 8 Duke Edges No. 4 South Carolina, 3-2, at Stephens Cup
Blue Devils picked up pair of close, late victories in the final two matches to prevail
JUNO BEACH, Fla. – No. 4 South Carolina fell 3-2 to No. 8 Duke in a tight third-place match at the Stephens Cup on Wednesday at Seminole Golf Club. It came down to the final two matches of the day.
Senior Justine Fournand and sophomore All-American Louise Rydqvist fell late in hotly contested, back-and-forth matches as the Blue Devils got their final two points to win.
Fellow sophomore All-American Hannah Darling won 2&1 in a match that she never trailed in. Graduate transfer Katherine Muzi was dominate with a 5&3 victory in a match she also never trailed in and was up 5-holes midway through the front nine.
The Gamecocks will be off until the end of the month when the team concludes its fall season looking to defend its title at the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 28-30) in Wilmington, N.C.
