The South Carolina women’s golf team completed the three-tournament fall schedule and now will take some time off until the team beings the spring season in February.
In the three tournaments during the fall, USC recorded one top five finish and two top 20 outcomes but the team looks for better results in the spring.
“I think that the fall season was a learning experience for our team throughout our lineup,” said head coach Kristi Coggins. “We look forward to the opportunity to hone some skills that will make us better in the spring. We will use our offseason to build on the positives that we saw during the fall.
“Our goal for the offseason is to alleviate the little mistakes. Each golfer is making one too many mistakes out there and it costs us strokes. We need to build on our strengths which are great ball-striking ability, great heart and solid course management.
“We look to be much improved in the spring. This team believes that they are a championship team, in their hearts and minds. The spring season is an eight-tournament run and we feel that we have the talent to compete with the best.”
The Gamecocks open the spring season on February 9th with the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Los Angles, California. The team then travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 5th to participate in the LSU Classic, which will be held on the site of the April SEC Championships. South Carolina plays host to 10 of the nation’s strongest teams in the 2004 Lady Gamecock Classic on March 12th at the University Club in Columbia, South Carolina. USC participates in two additional tournaments in March and April (Liz Murphey Invitational and the Bryan National Collegiate) before the SEC Championships from April 16th – 18th.
