Riane Coman Named to SEC Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, AL – South Carolina senior Riane Coman was named to the 2022 Southeastern Conference Community Team, announced by the league on Wednesday. This marks the first time Coman has earned the honor.
Coman is currently the student body president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) here in the midlands. Through the FCA, Coman and her fellow members create a place for student athletes and students across the five colleges in the region (USC, CIU, Allen, Benedict and Columbia College) to experience community and have fun. Coman has assisted in organizing ways to help serve her community, including a public speaking engagement at an event called Fields of Faith at Segra Park. There, Coman interned with FCA twice while helping execute student gatherings, in addition to leading the charge on putting together leadership team events. Coman will travel to Israel with a group of 10 FCA students this winter for 10 days to continue their efforts in creating a sense of community across the globe.
After graduation, Riane will be working with FCA in college ministry as Area Representative and International Advancement Coordinator in the Midlands. Riane also credits her time with USC women’s soccer as a tool for meeting new people and the chance to engage in the FCA with her fellow teammates. During her time with the Gamecocks, Riane has been named a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll student, and has appeared in 52 games throughout her career.
“College soccer is a privilege beyond expression,” Coman said. “The journey, though often challenging, is priceless, and full of memories I would never trade. I am overcome with thankfulness as I think about my time at USC. I thank my God for the gift of my time here. Through him ‘I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.’ Philippians 4:12-13.”
Coman and the rest of the South Carolina women’s soccer team will take on Mizzou for its regular season finale on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Stone Stadium.
