BRIMINGHAM, Ala. — Sophomore Gene Zeigler was named SEC Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday. It’s the first career player of the week honor for the Florence, S.C. native. He shares the award this week with Vanderbilt’s Gordon Sargent and Georgia’s Maxwell Ford.
Zeigler is fresh off his first collegiate win on Tuesday at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate. He led the tournament wire-to-wire. Zeigler was the only player under par in the 104-man field, posting a 54-hole score of 214 (-2).
He opened up a six shot lead through 36 holes after shooting a field-best, 4-under 68 in Monday’s second round. He was the only player in the field to shoot a score in the 60s all week.
