Gamecocks Give No. 3 Georgia the Upset at Home
BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The No. 7 South Carolina (5-2) Equestrian team took down the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (4-2) at home on Saturday, the third top-10 win for the Gamecocks this season. South Carolina also tallied two MOPs on the day, coming from Madeline Schaefer and Chloe VanStone.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FLAT
Schaefer got the scoring started for South Carolina, tallying a 74 on Jam to defeated Georgia’s Ceci Bresch (57). Freshman Mary Hunter Millet followed suit in her first collegiate ride, setting herself up with a career high 77 on Murphy to get the point against Cataline Peralta’s 74.
FENCES
In the event, Schaefer continued her hot streak, tying her season high of 84 against Peralta’s 78 on Dexter. Senior captain Jordan Allen rounded out the event for the Gamecocks, scoring a 78 on Barnaby to defeat Emma Reichow’s 75.
HORSEMANSHIP
The Bulldogs put up three points to take the event, but the Gamecocks saw victories from Alyssa Jipping and Tierney Horton to make things close. Jipping tallied a 72 on Z, taking down Grace Himes’ 70. Horton then rounded out the scoring, defeating Sara Lewis 73.5-71.5 to head into halftime behind by just two, 6-4.
REINING
The meet came down to the final event, where the Gamecocks dominated 4-0 to take the day 10-9 over the Bulldogs. Chloe VanStone notched a 71.5 on Sparky and won her matchup by a three-point spread against Reagan Shepherd. VanStone’s ride earned her the MOP honor for the event. Haley Turner kept it going for South Carolina in her first appearance for the Gamecocks, topping Courtney Blumer 69-68.5 on Nike. Keeping the energy going, Mary Margaret Coats worked and won on Magnum with a 71.5 to Shelby Lynch’s 71. Emilia Reuitmann continued the effort for the Gamecocks, putting up a 72 on Stoner, tying with her opponent Caitlyn Lyons. The meet came down to the final ride from Emma Lane, where she emerged victorious 72-69 on Chexie over Jax Bound.

The Gamecocks will return in January for their Garnet & Black Scrimmage, to be held on Jan. 27 at One Wood Farm.
