Gamecock Pros Post Strong Weekends

COLUMBIA, S.C.  –  A pair of South Carolina women’s golf alumnae had strong weekends at the professional level with Sarah Schmelzel tying for sixth at the Lotte Championship on the LPGA Tour and Katelyn Dambaugh tying for fourth at the Casino Del Soul Golf Classic on the Symetra Tour over the weekend. 

Schmelzel opened the Lotte Championship in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii with a 3-under (69) on Wednesday and followed the with another 3-under (69) on Thursday. The 2016 graduate carded a 7-under (65) on Friday and closed the tournament with a 6-under (66) on Saturday to finish at 19-under (269), tied for sixth and two strokes off the four-woman logjam in second place. 

Dambaugh found herself in the thick of things all weekend at the Casino Del Soul in Tucson, Ariz., hanging around the middle of the pack with an opening round 72 and a 2-under (70) in the second round, but shot up the leaderboard with her 4-under (68) in the third round on Saturday. The 2017 graduate was in the mix late in Sunday’s final round, stuck in a tie for second before wrapping the tournament with a 5-under (67), finishing the weekend 11-under (277), tied for fourth.
