South Carolina Hosts Florida for Regular-Season Finale

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis (12-7, 7-4 SEC) will host No. 1 Florida (17-1, 11-0 SEC) on Fri., April 9, at 1 p.m. at the Carolina Tennis Center in the regular-season finale. The Gators will be the second No. 1 team to travel to Columbia this spring.
 
Gamecock Notables

  • The Gamecocks remained in the top 20 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings for the eighth week in a row, coming in this week at No. 13.
  • South Carolina is 5-2 at home, including a 4-1 mark in SEC matches.
  • The Gators will be the seventh ranked opponent the Gamecocks face at home this spring.
  • The Gamecocks have a singles record of 60-39 in dual matches this spring and earned 14 of those wins in the No. 4 spot.
  • No. 70 Toby Samuel continues to lead the Gamecocks in both overall (22-5) and SEC (9-0) singles play.
  • Currently sitting in fourth place in the SEC standings heading into Friday’s finale, finishing in that spot would be South Carolina’s highest SEC regular-season finish since taking third in 2017.
  • The doubles team of Jake Beasley and Toby Samuel has accounted for nearly 40 percent of the team’s overall doubles wins, leading the team with a 21-9 record.

 
The Florida Series

  • Under head coach Josh Goffi, South Carolina is 2-2 at home against Florida.
  • The last time the Gamecocks hosted the Gators, the Gamecocks won 4-3 in 2018.

 
Scouting the Gators

  • This is the second consecutive week that Florida is ranked No. 1 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings.
  • Florida is 17-1 overall, only losing to then-No. 6 Texas at ITA Kickoff Weekend, and is 6-1 on the road.
  • The Gators are undefeated in SEC play and have already secured the SEC regular-season title.
  • Head coach Bryan Shelton, in his ninth season, leads the Gators’ nine returners and lone freshman.
