Gamecocks Wrap Up Garnet & Black Scrimmage

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The Gamecocks wrapped up the Garnet & Black Scrimmage on Saturday, defeating the College of Charleston 9-0 in Jumping Seat and Garnet taking down Black 5-3 in Western.

How it Happened: 

FLAT

Madeline Schaefer had an incredible start on Barnaby, scoring a 95 right out the gate and earning the point over Kathryn McCarthy’s 70. Schaefer earned the Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) nod for her ride. Mahaley Gann followed suit for the Gamecocks, earning an 81 on Murphy to give herself the point against Caroline Berg’s 73. Natalie Jayne scored an 80 on Rio putting her over Lily Toesing’s 70, and Nina Columbia gave herself a six-point spread win on Jam with a 77 against Cate Hernandez’s 71. Mary Hunter Millet rounded out the event, giving the Gamecocks the sweep with an 85 on Dento, defeating a 75 from Sydney Calgary. 

FENCES

Sydney DeGrazia got things started on Redford, scoring an 81 and taking the point over Hernandez’s 77. Bella Primavera had a solid ride on Quentin, notching on 87 to take the matchup against McCarthy’s 82. Trinity Hammerschmidt pulled an 85 on Dexter to give the Gamecocks the point against Sydney Calgary (74), while Alexa Aureliano tied things up with Olivia Lonneman, each receiving a 79 on Steve Irwin. Natalie Jayne secured her point and the MOP honor with an 89 on Joe, defeating Toensing’s 75 and finalizing the Jumping Seat score of 9-0. 

HORSEMANSHIP

The Black and Garnet teams battled it out in the event, tying things up 2-2 to head into halftime. Carly Jenkins earned her point on Z for the Black team, defeating Kendalynn Herlocker 72-71. Ava Pratt fell to the Garnet’s Kiersten Beckner 73-58.5 on Willy, but the Black team answered back with Tierney Horton scoring a 74 on Tulip to give herself the edge over Alyssa Jipping’s 72. Ruby Voortmeyer earned the event MOP and the Garnet team a point to round things out, beating Alexa Thorpe’s 66.5 with a 72. 

REINING

Hayley Turner got the points going for the Garnet team, notching a 65 on Stoner to defeat Emma Lane’s 59.5. Claire Pound followed suit with her own 65 on Nike, earning the point against Mary Margaret Coats’ 64.5. Emilia Reuitmann fought back for the Black team, scoring a 70 on Chexie and receiving the MOP nod taking down Emerson Madonia’s 67.5. Chloe Stephenson scored the final point for Garnet with a 63.5 on Sparky.
