Gamecocks Score Program's Most Goals In C-USA Match

Carolina scores six goals in a match for first time since 2000

COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina men’s soccer scored its most goals in a regular season match since 2000 in a 6-0 win over UAB on Saturday at Stone Stadium. Carolina scored three goals in each half on its way to its largest margin of victory since the 2000 season and scored six goals or more in a match for the 45th time program history.

Christian Kraus led the way with a goal in each half as the Gamecocks had three different freshmen recorded goals on Saturday while fellow freshman Athan Cosse finished with an assist.

South Carolina started the scoring at the 4-minute mark thanks to the Kraus goal off the Peter Clement assist to give the Gamecocks an early 1-0 lead. The scoring continued at the 28th minute as the Logan Frost assist led to the Spencer Mallion goal to push the lead to 2-0.

Just as it looked like the score would remain at 2-0 heading into halftime, a Cosse assist led to Clement’s goal at the 41-minute mark to give the Gamecocks a 3-0 lead after the first 45 minutes of play.

Carolina quickly showed it was ready for more after halftime as Kraus’ second finish of the afternoon at the 56th minute pushed the lead to 4-0 in favor of the garnet and black. Brian Banahan’s goal at the 82-minute mark off the Josh Corning assist and Andrew Halloran’s goal at the 87th minute rounded out the scoring effort for the Gamecocks.

Saturday’s performance produced the most goals in a C-USA match for the Gamecocks in program history.
