Windy conditions lead to tough scoring day in opening round of the spring for South Carolina
NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas – No. 4 South Carolina is eighth after a tough scoring day in windy conditions at the Nexus Collegiate. The Gamecocks shot 310 (+22) but are just five shots back of cracking the top-four.
No teams shot par is round one and No. 16 Auburn has an eight-shot lead over No. 2 Wake Forest after shooting 288 (E) the opening 18 holes.
Freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand and graduate transfer Katherine Muzi each shot 76 (+4) to pace Carolina. They both sit just inside the top-20, T-19th.
All-Americans Hannah Darling and Louise Rydqvist rounded out the counting scores for the Gamecocks. Darling shot 78 (+6) and Rydqvist shot 80 (+8). Darling led the team with three birdies.
Senior Mathilde Claisse shot 80 (+8) and senior Justine Fournand shot 77 (+5). She’s playing as an individual this week in the spring opener. Fournand is just outside the top-20, T-23rd.
Carolina will be paired with Minnesota and No. 11 Ole Miss for round two on Tuesday. Claisse will lead things off on hole 10 at 7:45 a.m. (ET). Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
