First career weekly POTW honor for junior that hails from Greenville, S.C.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Rafe Reynolds was named SEC Golfer of the Week on Wednesday by the league office after notching his best collegiate performance at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 12-14). He shares the honor this week Ricky Castillo (Florida) and Mateo Fernández de Oliveira (Arkansas).
Reynolds shot a career-best score of 206 (-10) en route to a T-2nd finish in the team’s spring opener which concluded yesterday at Grand Reserve Golf Club, home of the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open.
Reynolds, a Greenville, S.C., native, fired a career-low, 18-hole score with his bogey free 67 (-5) in the final round on Tuesday. It’s the second top five of his career and marks his second straight top-20 finish to begin the spring. He finished T-17th at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate (Feb. 5-6) and was one of four Gamecocks competing in the event.
Carolina returns to the course for the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 6-7) as the team looks to defend its title from last spring.
