Oxford, Miss. – South Carolina women’s soccer and Ole Miss battled to a 0-0 tie on Friday evening in SEC women’s soccer action at Rebel Soccer Stadium. Carolina goalkeeper Elise Matthews finished the match with a career-high 18 saves for the Gamecocks and recorded her sixth shutout of the season. The tie moves Carolina’s record to 9-6-3 and 2-3-2 in the SEC with the Rebels 13-3-1 and 4-2-1 in the SEC. Carolina returns to action on Sunday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. ET match vs. Mississippi State televised live on SEC-TV.
“Elise made a lot of great saves in goal for us tonight, had a solid game and did very well to keep the ball out of the net,” said USC head coach Shelley Smith. “I thought we defended well but we couldn’t get our offense going. Mississippi is a solid offensive team and they possess the ball very well.”
Ole Miss finished the night with a 30-4 shot advantage including 16 shots in the second half vs. the Gamecocks. Friday night’s match marked the second 0-0 tie for the Gamecocks vs. an SEC opponent this year. In the SEC opener, Carolina and Auburn finished at 0-0 in Columbia.
