No. 2 Gamecocks Lead After One at Moon Golf Invitational
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard put on a show, notching a 9-under 63, the lowest round in program history, to put the South Carolina women’s golf team atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Moon Golf Invitational on Sunday at the Duran Golf Club.
Roussin-Bouchard teed off on the 11th hole and rattled off five consecutive birdies to start her round. After shooting par on the next three holes she got her sixth birdie on hole one, and followed that with two more birdies on holes three and four. Nearing the end of her round, Roussin-Bouchard sank her ninth birdie on hole nine before shooting par on her final hole to finish with a 9-under 63, edging the previous record of 64 set by Katelyn Dambaugh at the 2016 ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
“We had a really solid performance today,” head coach Kalen Anderson said after the round. “Obviously Pauline led us with 9-under which was a phenomenal round. She was on fire and birdied her first five holes, it was just fun to watch her perform today. Overall the golf course is in scorable condition but the wind picked up late. Ana finished very strong for us, LK played very steady. Pim and Mathilde didn’t have their best days but certainly are playing well and should rebound tomorrow. We’re looking forward to the next couple days. Obviously the lead is a good place to be in but we have a lot of work left.”
Senior Lois Kaye Go is tied for seventh after her first round 2-under. Go notched three birdies in her round. Fellow senior Ana Pelaez made her season debut on Sunday, birdieing three of her final six holes to finish 1-under, tied for 15th. Senior Pimnipa Panthong shot a 4-over 76, and sophomore Mathilde Claisse tallied a 5-over 77 to round out the squad.
The Gamecocks tee off at 9:50 a.m. ET on Monday. Live scoring can be found HERE
