Two Gamecocks Named to Ariat All-American List

WACO, Texas – Senior Jordan Allen and fifth-year Trinity Hammerschmidt have been named to the 2022-23 Arial All-America teams, as announced by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) on Thursday. Hammerschmidt earned Second Team honors for the Flat, while Allen earned Honorable Mention in Fences.

The top five riders per event were selected and named the Ariat First-Team All-America by the NCEA Selection Committee. The next five riders per event earned Second Team honors. Honorable Mention honorees were selected via established criteria.

Hammerschmidt had a dominant season for the Gamecocks, going 8-5-0 on the Flat, starting off the year 6-0-0. The fifth year recorded four wins against top-10 teams (twice against Auburn and Texas A&M), and earned an MOP honor for her ride against Minnesota Crookston. Hammerschmidt tallied a 90 against No. 1 SMU (Feb. 23), the second highest score for the season in the event, and tying for the 16th highest in program history. Her Second Team nod is her second of her career, and she becomes just the fifth Gamecock to receive All-America honors on the Flat.

Senior Jumping Seat captain Jordan Allen went 8-4-0 in Fences for South Carolina, earning the highest winning percentage in the event on the year. Allen competed and started in all 12 meets, recording a season high 87 against No. 1 SMU (Feb. 23) for the third-highest score in Fences this season. In the 2023 SEC Tournament, the senior recorded a win against Georgia’s Emma Reichow on Rico, 245-241 to earn a point for the Gamecocks. Her Honorable Mention marks the second All-America honors for her career (Second Team, 2019-20).

Allen, Hammerschmidt and the rest of the South Carolina equestrian team will prepare for NCEA Nationals, to be held April 13-15 at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla.
