Gamecocks 12th, Play Suspended in Augusta
Nathan Franks currently leading the way for Carolina at even par midway through second round
AUGUSTA, Ga. – South Carolina sits in 12th place currently as play was suspended on the back nine of the second round Saturday at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational. There was a weather delay midway through the first round that lasted until 2 p.m. before play could resume.
The Gamecocks sit at 14-over overall and are 5-over at the midway point of round two. Carolina shot 297 (+9) in the opening round. Sophomore Nathan Franks shot 71 (-1) to lead the way with a trio of birdies. Fellow sophomore Gene Zeigler shot 73 (+1). Junior Rafe Reynolds (76, +4) and transfer Lansdon Robbins (77, +5) rounded out the counting scores the opening 18 holes.
Zeigler currently has the best second round going at even par with six holes remaining. Franks and Robbins are both 1-over.
No. 12 Florida has the team lead at 21-under with No. 6 Illinois and No. 22 Virginia five shots behind. The Illini’s Adrien Dumont de Chassart has the individual lead by two at 9-under.
The Gamecocks will be paired again with No. 19 Georgia Southern and UCF for the conclusion of the second round. Teams will be repaired for the final round of play. Live scoring is available again via Golfstat.
