No. 12 Gamecocks Announce Spring Slate
Team will play in five regular season events beginning with The Gator (Feb. 12-14)
COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 12 South Carolina announced its 2021 spring slate on Wednesday. The Gamecocks will play in five tournaments, beginning Feb. 12-14 with The Gator hosted by No. 15 Florida.
Carolina will then travel west to the Red Stick to compete in the LSU Invitational (Feb. 26-28) followed by the Tiger Invitational (March 15-17) in Opelika, Ala. hosted by No. 8 Auburn. The team will be making its first trip all-time to the three events. Each tournament will also feature all 14 SEC schools plus additional programs within the conference’s geographic footprint.
The Gamecocks wrap-up the spring slate with two staples on the schedule, the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate (March 28-30) and the Haskins Award Augusta Invitational (April 3-4), just before the start of The Masters. The team’s final two regular season events will feature a mix of teams within the regions of the SEC.
“We have put together what I think is a great spring schedule,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “It’s a unique and interesting blend of mostly SEC competition and regional flavor – a diverse style of golf courses too. We were able to keep two of our favorite events, the Hootie and the Haskins Award Invitational, on our schedule. This is no small feat considering that we co-host the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Charleston, and we also play in Augusta almost every year. We couldn’t have accomplished finalizing this schedule without the help and understanding of our sport administrator, Steve Eigenbrot, and our senior women’s administrator, Maria Hickman. Coach (Ben) Dietrich and I are looking forward to getting the guys back in town and preparing for what should be a very challenging and exciting spring.”
Every team in the tournament fields this spring will have to adhere to the conference’s COVID-19 safety protocols.
The 2021 SEC Championship will again take place at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Ga. Three rounds of stroke play will take place April 21-23 with match play following April 24-25 featuring the top-eight teams from stroke play to determine a champion. The championship match will be televised live by the SEC Network.
NCAA Regionals are set to take place May 17-19 at six host sites across the country. Thirty teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
