ABOUT THIS GAME
- While LSU holds a 22-14 edge in the all-time series, the Gamecocks have won the last 10 meetings an are 11-5 against the Tigers in the Dawn Staley era including a 4-3 record at the Maravich Center.
- South Carolina is looking for its 23rd straight SEC regular-season victory tonight. Its longest SEC win streak is 24 games – Jan. 3, 2016 through Jan. 26, 2017. Including three wins in the 2020 SEC Tournament, the Gamecocks have defeated an SEC opponent 25 straight games.
- Today’s game pits the SEC’s to longest-tenured Black female head coaches against each other with Staley in her 13th season at South Carolina and Nikki Fargas in her 10th at LSU. They are the second and third longest tenured active coaches in the league, trailing Gary Blair. in his 18th season at Texas A&M.

- The Gamecocks have been ranked in the top five of the last 24 AP Polls, marking the longest active such streak in the country.
- While the South Carolina offense gets a bulk of the headlines, opposing coaches know its the Gamecock defense that can take their team out of the game. South Carolina has allowed SEC opponents just 60.7 points per game this season to rank second in the league. On the season against a schedule that has the highest opponent winning percentage in the country, the Gamecocks are 30th in the country in field goal percentage defense (.352) and 17th in the nation in 3-point percentage defense (.240). South Carolina leads the nation in blocked shots per game (8.2) and averages 16.1 points off 14.6 opponent turnovers per game.
- Unanimous AP Preseason All-American Aliyah Boston’s triple-double against Georgia was a performance that had been building since the start of league play. In the Gamecocks’ three wins against ranked SEC opponents (at #10/8 Kentucky, #15/16 Arkansas, #22/23 Georgia), the 6-foot-5 forward has averaged 20.7 points on 55.8 percent shooting, 13.0 rebounds and 7.7 blocks. On the season, Boston ranks sixth in the country in blocked shots per game (3.3) and 19th in rebounding average (11.1). She averages a double-double on the season (14.4 ppg, 11.1 rpg), in SEC play (17.3, 12.5) and against ranked opponents (15.7, 11.3)
- While Boston gets much of the spotlight, junior Victaria Saxton has put her stamp on the Gamecocks’ frontcourt as well. Known as a shot blocker and aggressive rebounder, Saxton’s offense has blossomed this season to 10.6 points per game. She has been especially effective recently, ranking third on the team in scoring over the last five games at 12.2 points per game, including her first career 20-point game coming at Vanderbilt (Jan. 14).
- Junior Destanni Henderson is the primary driver of the Gamecocks’ high pace this season, even as opponents focus on shutting her down. Her 12.3 points per game are third on the team and she leads the SEC with 5.8 assists per game, including 6.5 in league play. She recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists against #15/16 Arkansas (Jan. 18).
- The Gamecocks have taken full advantage of the versatility of senior LeLe Grissett with Staley playing her everywhere on the court, including honing her point guard skills. While she is learning to run the team from that spot, Grissett has been taking advantage of her size and ability to work down low to rank fifth in the SEC with 3.0 offensive rebounds per league game.
