Gamecocks Extend Streak to 33-Straight Semesters of a 3.0 GPA
Student-athletes at the University of South Carolina ended the Spring 2023 semester with a departmental grade point average (GPA) of 3.39, it was announced today. With the exception of the COVID-19 Spring of 2020, this marks the department’s highest GPA on record and the 33rd-consecutive semester with a departmental GPA above 3.0.
Women’s golf (3.84) earned the highest team GPA, followed closely by beach volleyball (3.74) and men’s soccer (3.72). Overall, 17 of 18 teams earned a GPA of 3.0 or better during the spring semester.
“Thirty-three straight semesters of a departmental GPA above 3.0 represents academic success from all of our student-athletes,” said Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “I am extremely proud of these accomplishments. The combination of athletics and academic achievements gives them a great foundation for future success in whatever endeavor they choose following their time in college.”
“Our student-athletes have proven they have what it takes to perform academically, and we are excited to support in all aspects possible. Our students and academic team prevailed through adversity in the fall and the spring semester GPA demonstrates their willingness to be exceptional student-athletes,” said Associate Athletics Director of Academics Charlie Ball.
The department named 92 student-athletes to the President’s List for earning a 4.0 GPA, 160 student-athletes to the Dean’s List (3.5) and 429 to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0).
