Columbia, S.C. – USC captured the South Carolina Collegiate Championship at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C. The Gamecocks claimed the state title by defeating Clemson, Charleston Southern and South Carolina State. South Carolina finished third overall with 77 points.
For the second year in a row, Jenny Lake was the overall meet champion. The junior’s 5-kilometer time of 17:44, beat the second place finisher by 12 seconds. The freshmen trio of Karen Wigal, Tristan Rackow and Nicki Breves finished 15th, 16th, and 27th, respectively. Mary Claire Utsey finished in 31st place to round out USC’s top-five.
Also competing for the Gamecocks were Julie Reale, Christine Mudd, Shay Shelton, Mary Wright, Lauren Paige, Sally Irvin and Ashley Cruse. South Carolina will next compete in the SEC Championships on Monday, Nov. 3, in Athens, Ga.
