South Carolina Fans Encouraged to Unite for 2020 College Colors Day

16th Annual Celebration Features Free Social Media Fan Engagement Content and Chances to Win College Merchandise

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Ahead of the highly anticipated return of college football, South Carolina fans everywhere are encouraged to unite in their fandom by wearing Gamecock apparel on Friday, September 4 for College Colors Day and sharing their spirit with other fans via social media.

The 16th annual College Colors Day, which was created by South Carolina’s exclusive licensing partner, CLC, is a national holiday that provides Gamecock fans across the country the opportunity to showcase their unmatched passion and spirit by showing off their pride on social media using the hashtag #CollegeColorsDay.

This year’s College Colors Day theme, “United We Fan,” emphasizes the power of togetherness that shared fandom for South Carolina delivers even though fans might be physically apart. While the college football season might look different this year, the unity and pride of Gamecocks fans will be stronger than ever.

“Even though our fans may not be able to gather in person for College Colors Day this year, it remains a great way for Gamecock fans everywhere to show the passion they have for South Carolina and that their strong connection to the University means more now than it ever has before,” said Matthew Bridges, Director of Trademark and Licensing, South Carolina.

Fans are encouraged to use #CollegeColorsDay and #Gamecocks to share their spirit on social media and visit CollegeColorsDay.com for various sharable graphics and ways they can engage with the campaign. The site also offers an opportunity for fans to have a chance to win officially licensed South Carolina collegiate merchandise. In addition, South Carolina has created their own incentive program to encourage fans to participate. Fans can sign up to be official College Colors Day Ambassadors by visit, GamecocksOnline.com/collegecolorsday. Gamecocks fans can also purchase new items at the official online store at shop.GamecocksOnline.com or at your local retailer that supports South Carolina Athletics.

“As the sports world gradually returns from the shutdowns caused by the pandemic, college fans across the country that have eagerly awaited the return of football can celebrate their teams and unite in support of their favorite school. We look forward to seeing the countless celebrations of fans who post pictures of themselves wearing their team’s colors on College Colors Day,” said Nicole Armentrout, Vice President, Marketing at CLC.

Nothing unites fans like the pride and passion they have for South Carolina, and College Colors Day puts that passion on full display on September 4. Gamecock fans are encouraged to wear their college colors this year to represent and celebrate the community of fans and alumni that make South Carolina so special because “United We Fan.”
