Go and Panthong Set for U.S. Women’s Amateur

Columbia, S.C.  –  University of South Carolina golfers Lois Kaye Go and Pimnipa Panthong have earned spots at the 120th U.S. Women’s Amateur, set for Aug. 3-9 at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.
 
Go and Panthong qualified thanks for their positions in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) where Panthong comes in at No. 27 and Go holds the No. 122 ranking. Returning sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (No. 1) and incoming freshman Paula Kirner (No. 38) also received invites but declined to participate due to travel concerns.
 
Panthong joins the Gamecocks this year as a graduate transfer after four years at Kent State. A three-time All-America honoree with the Golden Flashes, Panthong advanced to the final round of the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur and took third as an individual at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games while helping her native Thailand take bronze as a team.
 
Go has etched her name all over the South Carolina record book during her time in Columbia as she holds the program’s best career scoring average (72.65), All-America honors in three consecutive seasons and back-to-back SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year awards in 2019 and 2020. Go helped her native Philippines take gold as a team at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games back in December.
 
The U.S. Women’s Amateur is typically played with 156 golfers, but the 2020 edition will see 132 golfers hit the links in Rockville, Md. from Aug. 3-9.
