Trio of Gamecocks to Compete in U.S. Amateur at Bandon Dunes
Ryan Hall making his second-straight appearance, Jamie Wilson and Jack Wall making debuts
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Three Gamecocks have earned exemptions into the field and will be competing at the 2020 U.S. Amateur next week. Senior All-American Jamie Wilson, rising junior Ryan Hall and rising sophomore Jack Wall will be representing South Carolina at the weeklong event, Aug. 10-16, at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon Dunes, Ore.
Wilson (196) and Hall (144) earned exemptions into the event per their World Golf Amateur Rankings (WAGR) by being ranked in the top-225 players from around the globe. Wall notched is spot in the field with his recent win at the 118th Met Amateur at Bethpage Black.
Hall is making his second U.S. Am appearance, while Wilson and Wall will be making their U.S. Am debuts at Bandon Dunes.
The U.S. Amateur Championship is the oldest USGA championship established in 1895. This year marks the 120th tournament. It’s one of the top amateur events in the world and will feature a 264-player field this year. There will be 36-holes of stroke play (Aug. 10-11) with the top-64 advancing to the match play portion of the event which begins on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The winner earns exemption into the U.S. Open, The Masters and the Open Championship provided he remains an amateur.
Ryan Stachler was the last South Carolina player to advance to match play when he made the cut at the 118th U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach in 2018. He fell in the round of 64, 1-up in 19 holes to Andrew Alligood.
