Columbia, S.C. – Riding an eight-game unbeaten streak, the South Carolina women’s soccer team returns to the road to face Georgia on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Carolina is 8-3-2 on the year with a 1-0-1 record in the SEC while the Bulldogs enter with an 8-4 mark and 1-1 in the SEC. Carolina is ranked seventh in the Southeast Region and the Bulldogs are ranked eighth in weekly rankings selected by the NSCAA. Friday night’s match will be broadcast at USCSPORTS.COM.

The eight-game unbeaten streak for Carolina is a school record and was set last Sunday in Carolina’s 2-0 win vs. Alabama. Senior goalkeeper Elise Matthews also set a USC record for career shutouts with the 13th of her career coming against the Crimson Tide. Freshman Shelly Hoddeson scored her second game-winning goal of the year and leads the team with five tallies this season.

Georgia leads the all-time series against the Gamecocks with a 5-2-1 record, including a 2-1 win in double overtime last year in Columbia. Tricia McKee’s goal at 106:33 in the second overtime gave the Bulldogs the victory.

Carolina got on board first in the match at 52:47 as Melinda Carter scored on a penalty kick. Carter was tripped up in the box by a Georgia defender resulting in a penalty kick. The Bulldogs tied the match at 60:39 on a goal from Ashley King. Driving down the left side of the field, King sailed a shot from 30 yards out, high enough to get past Carolina goalkeeper Carolyn Ortega to knot the match at 1-1.

McKee’s goal in the second overtime came off a pass from Kara Kenney. Kenney’s cross found McKee who dribbled in and scored from five yards out to win the match. South Carolina outshot Georgia 17-14 in the match and Ortega finished with six saves on the evening.
