No. 8 Gamecocks Sweep the Day, Nab Two Victories Over UT Martin and Lynchburg
BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The No. 8 South Carolina Equestrian team (2-0) had a successful Friday, taking down No. 10 UT-Martin (0-1) and Lynchburg* to remain undefeated throughout the first two meets at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UT Martin
FLAT – The Gamecocks started things off in a tight battle with the Hornets, falling 3-2. Rookie Sarah Rabb picked up her first collegiate point on Dento, taking down Sophia Sundem 80-72 to get things started in the event. Mary Hunter Millet followed suit, notching a 79-76 win on Barnaby to give South Carolina its second point of the day.
REINING – South Carolina picked up a 3-0 shutout in the event, with Emma Lane and Haley Turner each tying their rides with their opponents. Chloe Stephenson grabbed the first point of the event with her 71 on Stoner, taking down Emma Schaefer’s 69. Stephenson also earned her second MOP honor of the season for her ride. Chloe VanStone continued the scoring for the Gamecocks, earning a 71 for her ride on Magnum over Logan Putvinkski’s 68.5. Co-captain Emilia Reutimann rounded out the first half, taking her point 70.5-67 on Sparky.
South Carolina led at the half 5-3.
FENCES – The Gamecocks had a huge sweep over UT Martin in the event, taking it 5-0. Sophie Mitchell took her point on Steve Irwin (78-74), along with Maddie Schaefer on Schnitzel (84-71), Jordan Allen on Quentin (86-83), Natalie Jayne on Joe (85-80) and Alexa Aureliano on Dexter (77-76). Jayne earned her third MOP of the year for her ride.
HORSEMANSHIP – South Carolina wrapped up the meet with UT Martin taking the event in strong fashion, 4-1. Tierney Horton took the first point with her 73-72.5 victory over Haley Kane on Tulip, followed by Carly Jenkins getting it done 73-72.5 on Houdini. Kiersten Beckner earned MOP for her ride on Chubby, taking down Acva Newsom 68.5-0. The last point of the day came from Alyssa Jipping after the sophomore put up a huge 74.5 on Paddy to come out on top over Kate Davis’ 72.5.
The Gamecocks won the meet 14-4.
LYNCHBURG
South Carolina had a huge 7-0 win over the Hornets to wrap up the day, sweeping the current back-to-back single discipline NCEA Champions.
FLAT – The Gamecocks started off scoring from Sophie Mitchell, earning her point with a 78-72 victory over Kelley McCormick on Barnaby. Grace Rabb followed suit, defeating Emma Schweizer on Tanner in an 11-point spread, 81-70. Junior Ellie Beard made her own six-point spread against Abigail Zemp, defeating the Hornet 81-75 on Rio. Sophomore Natalie Jayne picked up yet another MOP honor for her ride on Murphy, taking down Lucy Metzler 87-79 to finish out the Flat.
FENCES – The points didn’t stop in the second half, with Jayne sweeping the MOPs for the meet after her giant 85-67 win on Dento over Mackenna Moss. Alexa Aureliano picked up a season-high 87 on newcomer Schnitzel, getting her point over Fallyn Belcastro’s 84. Jordan Allen tied her point 83-83 on Joe, and Maddie Schaefer finished up the day with a 74-70 victory on Dexter over Emma Schweizer.
