Hilton Head, S.C. – The No. 4 South Carolina women’s golf team found its footing late in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and enter the final round in 11th place.
“It was a pretty challenging day, the front nine was pretty windy,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “It calmed down as we got near the end of the round, but this is a tough course. It’s a great course and it’s got some teeth; you’ve got to be on all the time here. With the conditions it’s a challenge for everybody and it’s a marathon of adversity. Today I’m proud of the way they finished. We’re not exactly where we want to be heading into the last round but were within a top five finish and if we have a good day tomorrow we can accomplish that.
Freshman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard took over the team lead with her 1-over 72 on Saturday, giving her a 5-over 147 for the tournament. She’s tied for 18th place heading into the final round.
Senior Ana Pelaez is tied for 22nd place with a 6-over 148 for the tournament so far, but she found her rhythm late on Saturday with a pair of birdies in her final four holes.
On the overall team leaderboard Wake Forest still holds the top spot with a five-stroke lead over UCLA.
