Gamecocks Aim to Keep Momentum Going at Regional Championships

Cary, N.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team will travel to Cary, N.C., to play in the ITA Carolina Regional Championships this weekend. The tournament will begin on Fri., Oct. 20 and continue through Tues., Oct. 24 at the Cary Tennis Park.

Lucas da Silva, Casey Hoole, and Carter Morgan are all veterans of the tournament while freshmen Sean Daryabeigi and Jelani Sarr will each be making their first career appearances.

The Gamecocks have a strong recent history at the Carolina Regionals with Hoole being the reigning title holder, having won the event in 2022.

Prior to Hoole’s holding of the title, Paul Jubb was the first Gamecock to win a regional title since 1986 at the 2018 edition of the event. The 2019 edition saw three Gamecocks in the quarterfinals and at the 2021 Regionals, Connor Thomson worked his way through five opponents to earn a spot in the semifinal match.

In 2019 South Carolina went 15-6 in the singles main draw and in 2021 they went 18-6. Most recently in 2022 the team went 16-4 with two Gamecocks making it to the quarterfinals and Hoole going on to win the event.

Draws and match times at the Carolina Regionals will be made available on the tournament webpage.
