26 Gamecocks Earn NCEA Academic Distinction
Waco, Texas – The South Carolina equestrian team delivered in the competition arena all season long, and now the team’s efforts in the classroom are being honored as 25 Gamecocks earned National Collegiate Equestrian Association academic honors, NCEA officials announced on Tuesday.
Seven Gamecocks made the NCEA All-Academic First Team, meaning that they rode in at least 70 percent of the meets this season and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher while being enrolled through the spring 2019 and fall 2019 semesters.
Sophomores Caroline Bald and Sloane Vogt, juniors Louisa Brackett, Gabrielle Brassard, McKenzie Duncan and seniors Jordan Scott and Madison Sellman all made the cut. This is the third time Scott has earned first team honors, while Brackett and Sellman are making their second appearances on the list, and Duncan made the leap to first team after making the second team as a sophomore.
Two riders earned NCEA All-Academic Second Team distinction, meaning they rode in at least 60 percent of the meets this season and held a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
Senior Caroline Gute and junior Taylor Kellam found themselves on the second team. This is the third time Gute has earned second team honors, while Kellam jumped up from the honorable roll squad last year.
A trio of Gamecocks made the NCEA All-Academic Honorable Mention squad. To qualify a student-athlete must compete in at least 50 percent of the meets in a season and have a 3.0 GPA.
Juniors Billi Brandner and Addie Cromer, along with redshirt-senior Quinn Brandt, all earned a spot on the honorable mention list.
Finally, 26 Gamecocks in total made the NCEA Honor Roll that recognizes members of the team that earned a 3.25 GPA. In addition to the previously named student-athletes the following Gamecocks made the cut
Junior Kate Bonham, junior Mira Clavecilla, junior Nikita Cope, sophomore Kit Cunningham, sophomore Trinity Hammerschmidt, junior Rawleigh Harris, senior Madelynne Herlocker, sophomore Graycen Hess, sophomore Alice Kass, sophomore Mackenzie Matthews, sophomore Christina Muller, sophomore Mackenzie Suffy, sophomore Alexa Thorpe and senior Farley Wickre.
